You may have noticed a new contact on page three – Debbie has stepped into the Club membership role so for any membership renewals or subscription queries do contact her.

We have a positive cornucopia of technical events in our Club calendar. As well as our regular Masterclass at CBR Classic Restorations in April and the Seminar at Classic Motor Cars in October, we also have a new event at Hilton & Moss in Essex. Exclusively for E-type and XK Club members, this day includes a chance to put your car on the ramp (first come, first served). See calendar for details.

You’ll know from Philip’s editorials about 9600 HP and her starring role at the 100th
Geneva Motor Show. We’ll be featuring a report and photos of this amazing...

Why not pay a visit to the E-type Forum?

You'll find an active community of E-type owners and enthusiasts discussing technical issues, asking for advice, sharing news and chatting about all things E-type.

The Forum is kindly hosted by E-Type UK (in conjunction with the Jaguar E-type Club).

Members’ cars showcased: Viral Pancholia recounts the story of finding his E-type,which he bought in the US and shipped to Dubai

This E-type found me – I wasn’t searching for the car – but it finally arrived in Dubai after a journey of approximately 11,000km (6,800 miles) crossing the ocean from New York in a container with an iconic Mercedes-Benz Pagoda, which I had found for my collection.

The story begins with the previous owner of the E-type, the car’s second owner from new, who was a classic-car collector, and whose wife wanted to sell his collection. I had been taken to the storage facility where the cars resided, to find mostly American classics which are currently not on my radar. I’m always fascinated by classic Mercedes- Benz cars, particularly the sleek SLs of the 1960s and 1970s, and we had gone to view a Pagoda and carry out a test drive on a sunny July afternoon.

The Mercedes immediately caught my interest, and we proceeded with the sales negotiations. I wasn’t interested in seeing any other car. Later, I was at the New York Museum of Modern Art, where one of the car exhibits – one of six on display at the time – caught my eye. It was even more beautiful and stylish than the SL I was planning to buy, and it looked the pinnacle of car design. The car was an E-type, and after seeing it I wasn’t sure I had made the right choice in agreeing to buy the SL...

Since its founding in 2004, the E-type Club has gone from strength to strength and we now have members in over 50 countries...

What makes the E-type Club different is that we focus 100% on E-types.

There are several excellent Jaguar clubs but they have to cover a vast range of cars and interests from pre-war through to the current range. Naturally, they cannot concentrate on just one model...

Over 5,000 E-types still recorded on the UK’s DVLA database

According to the vehicle licensing statistics data published by the UK Department of Transport, from over 67,000 E-types originally built for worldwide sale, in the third quarter of 2023 there were 4,696 examples still licensed for road use in the UK, with another 1,275 declared SORN. This compares with a figure of around 3,400 E-types licensed for road use in the third quarter of 2013 – an increase of 1,296 cars, or 38 per cent over 10 years.
Although these figures are not to be taken as entirely accurate, due to flaws in the recording system, and of course there will be other E-types in the UK that are neither registered for road use nor declared SORN, it does show that the number of E-types being used has increased over the past decade, although
the figure has remained relatively stable since 2020.

Interestingly, the figures...

As as I mentioned in the February issue, the E-type will be a central part of the celebrations for the centenary of the Geneva Motor Show.

How extraordinary to think that when in 1961 the two E-types were unveiled in the Parc des Eaux Vives just outside the centre of Geneva, 63 years later the car would be chosen from among the tens of thousands of new cars displayed at the iconic Geneva Motor Show in the last 100 years, as one of the main stars.

Above all, this honour is a tribute to Sir William Lyons, Bill Heynes and Malcolm Sayer, not forgetting their colleagues such as Bob Knight, ‘Lofty’ England, Tom Jones, Cyril Crouch, Claude Baily, Wally Hassan, Jo Eerdmans, Norman Dewis, Phil Weaver, Bob Berry and many more.

It is a rather sobering thought that I met all, bar Sayer sadly, and became good friends with several. I have fond memories of them all. It is extraordinary to think that it is nearly 40 years since I interviewed these gentlemen and wrote my tome on the subject.

That 300,000-word book – Jaguar E-type, The Definitive History – has now gone out of print and, with the reduced demand for such books today and the massive cost of printing such a large book, it is very unlikely
ever to be reprinted.

Why buy an E-type?

people-standing-around-jaguar-etypes-parked-in-town-square.jpg

Apart from the emotional aspects, there are a number of hard-headed reasons to buy an E-type.

Reliability – there is no point in owning a classic car unless you can use and enjoy it, and do so with confidence that it is not going to let you down. All the E-type’s mechanical components were used in the higher volume saloon...

XKE Data

XKEDATA.com is a project to help people find information about a particular car or series of cars by serial number.

This site welcomes participation from anyone interested in these cars. We aren't experts, but there is also no exclusivity to the data hosted here. You don't have to be a member to list a car.

If a site user sees a car with such-and-such car number in a classified ad that's what will be entered. It's all that's known at that point. But over time, hopefully more information will be added, corrections will be made, and at the end of the day we'll know a bit more about a particular car than we would otherwise.
