Ecurie Ecosse - David Murray and the legendary Scottish motor racing team by Eric Dymock

A superbly researched and written study of the privateer Scottish team that secured Le Mans glory in 1956 and 1957.  Readable, well illustrated and intriguing.  Highly recommended for anyone in Jaguar's 1950s motor racing history.

The Aquajet is Back

February 2008

Since February last year, reports Dougal at Longstone Tyres, the original E-type radial tyre 185HR15 Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet has been unavailable, due to problems with the mould.  These problems have now been overcome and the tyre is available from stock at Longstone Tyres, www.longstonetyres.co.uk, +44 (0)1302 711123.

J.D. Classics Opens New Showroom

Classic Jaguar specialist, J. D Classics, is celebrating the opening of a brand new, 5000 sq.m car showroom. The new two-storey building is the company’s second purpose-built sales area. Its completion means that the specialist is now able to offer customers 9000 sq.m of state-of-the-art viewing facilities in which to browse its expanding range of top quality classic XKs, E-types and Mk IIs.

Readers of the Daily Telegraph (UK) have voted the Jaguar E-type the most beautiful car of all time.  The E-type received almost four times as many votes as any other car putting it in top position ahead of the Citroen DS at number two and the Classic Jaguar XK 120/140/150 (Ed - yes, all these XKs were all lumped together!) which achieved a creditable third position.

Less of the Old Heave Ho!

Thanks to the pioneering upgrade from J.D Classics, the owners of classic cars fitted with rack and pinion steering, such as E-types, can now enjoy the benefits of modern power steering while retaining the original look of their car.

The power steering upgrade, which has taken 14 months to develop and test, integrates a modern electric steering pump with a car's existing steering rack.  The system allows drivers to vary the power-steering assistance to suit their needs or to select the original ride feel for authenticity, simply by turning a small rotating dial on an electric control unit, which is mounted conveniently and discreetly under the dashboard.

E for Extravaganza at XK60

Saturday 9 August 2008: Over 300 E-types joined more than 600 classic XK 120s, 140s, 150s, C-types and D-types at Goodwood Motor Circuit to celebrate the annual Jaguar E-type Club Day - not to mention 60 years of the Jaguar XK, the ground-breaking XK engine (that powers many XK-Es) and the best of Jaguar history.

After 11 years, Julie Porter is withdrawing from an active involvement with the Jaguar E-type Club. We would like to thank her for all her hard work with the Club’s highly successful events programme which, over the last decade, has included the XK60 Diamond Tour, plus tours to France and Switzerland. We will all miss her considerable energy, humour and dynamism.

E-type Club staff would also like to say a sad farewell to other departing E-type Club employees, Louise Shaw, Jennifer Morgan and Lyndsey Moreton.

Haggerty's New Recovery Package

US-originated specialist classic car insurer Hagerty International is a refreshing addition to the classic insurance scene with rare flexibility on insuring visiting foreign drivers on its policies.

Now Hagerty has enhanced its standard policies further by adding Breakdown and Recovery Insurance throughout the UK, with reduced premiums for European breakdown cover. Tubeless Wires from MWS

MWS International (Tel +44(0)1753 549360, www.mwsint.com) has gone tubeless. Though this was always thought to be impossible with wire wheels due to the spokes going through the rim, going tubeless has become highly desirableas tyres designed to be used with inner tubes have all but disappeared.

Price for the silver-painted 5.5x15in 72-spoke Jaguar wheel (part XW5744S-TL) is £202 retail and for the chrome wheel (XW5744C/3-TL) is £275.84.

The E-type Club Welcomes Two New Representatives

Andy writes, “I am exploring the possibility of a new event at Gaydon Motor Museum for E-type owners, on Sunday 19th July 2009 and in order to secure this I need to attract at least 40 people at a cost of £7 per person. Attractions include: the worlds largest collection of historic British cars, the Land-Rover 4x4 off-road experience, outdoor go-kart circuit, miniature assault course/play area, gift shop, 120-seat licensed café. If you wish to find out more then visit the website, www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk. We will have our own designated parking for 100 cars and availability for one trade stand. Ken writes, “As an enthusiastic Jaguar driver, (Series II E-type, XK 140 DHC, along with a new XKR and S-type R), I would be pleased to offer my services. I live in mid Hampshire and could probably fill in the area between Paul Abadjian in the west and Peter Spackman in Surrey. I have had much experience within the Jaguar community

Under Bonnet Work Light

Coombs Special E-type For Sale

The 1965 Frua Italsuisse Coombs E-type FHC will be up for sale at H&H’s Race Retro auction at Stoneleigh Park on March 14. John Coombs commissioned Frua to restyle an E-type for him, but the Italian coachbuilder struggled to improve on the original and made only minor changes. Disappointed, Coombs then took the car to Italsuisse, who added the distinctive chromework. More details on www.classic-auctions.com.
