8th Sunday Scramble, Bicester Heritage, 24th April
Despite a chilly start and weather conditions which were far from ideal, the Sunday Scramble event at Bicester Heritage in Oxfordshire on “Drive it Day” proved to be a great success. The Club were busy launching their Round Britain Coastal Drive, which promises to be a great event for a Prostate Cancer UK. Philip and Julie certainly seemed busy with plenty of inquisitive visitors to the Club stand. The whole team at Bicester should be thanked for a superb event, with a huge variety of cars on display. The period setting made the day all the more intriguing, with cars hidden away in little bunkers and aircraft hangars for all to seek out. It felt as if at any moment the call for “Scramble!” would be heard and the whole airfield would spring into action. Even better, by mid-morning the sun was out, although the mercury showed no sign of rising and the stiff breeze persisted!
The day also marked the inaugural meeting of the E-Type Forum. Over the past few years the Forum, with the support of moderator David Jones and many an enthusiastic member from all over the globe, has gone from strength to strength, many of whom already contribute regularly to the Club magazine. Members drove down from Lancashire and up from Kent to meet up with familiar faces, but also to finally put faces to names seen so often online. Some of our European members even flew in for the day! At one point I counted 45 cars of all varieties, although there may well have been more! There was a lovely relaxed feel to the whole day.
The knowledge base and advice which has been accrued over the past few years has been invaluable to many members, both old and new. Indeed, some tinkering was even being carried out during the meet! We actively encourage Club members to get involved with our discussions on the Forum. Everything from a comprehensive “Factory Fit” thread with originality details on each marque to handy modifications is covered, with a friendly atmosphere to be found.
The day was certainly a great way to kick off the season’s events, Club and Forum members alike look ahead to this summer, let’s hope it’s a good one!
