E-type Club Weekend 2016
Kindly sponsored by SNG Barratt Group and Motor Wheel Services
Kick-start the weekend with an informal supper at The Talbot Inn. Please book direct with the pub on +44 (0) 1584 781941. Meet from 7pm.
Venue: Newnham Bridge, Tenbury Wells, WR15 8JF
Saturday – Club Day
Philip and Julie’s home, Hilltop Farm, is a lovely Tudor farmhouse with converted barns, one of which houses the admin HQ for the Club.
Gates open at 11am and the day will draw to a close at about 4pm.
Refreshments – food, bar, coffee – will be available all day, but you’re welcome to bring a picnic. Cars will be parked in the orchard so sensible footwear is advised.
Club favourites, Debbie Arthurs and her Sweet Rhythm band, will accompany the day’s proceedings with jazz music.
Club Weekend sponsors will be on site all day: SNG Barratt Group with E-type spares and accessories and MWS (Motor Wheel Services) with a tyre fitting service and also wheel balancing at the discounted Club Day rate of £5 per wheel (inc VAT).
CMC (Classic Motor Cars) will bring one of their splendid cars and will be on hand for restoration advice. Also joining us will be other specialists and local craftspeople along with our own Club merchandise and Porter Press books.
Philip’s little museum will open, and you’ll see his Fixed Head 9600 HP and OTS, 848 CRY in the farmyard.
Club Representatives will be around all day, and if you’re fairly new to the Club, do make yourselves known to them and to the Club team.
Saturday – Dinner
In the Dutch Barn at Hilltop Farm – arrive from 7pm for fizz and canapés. David Huband will amuse us before and after supper. He’ll add that extra sparkle with quick fire observational style of humour and should get the evening off to an entertaining start.
Dinner will be a barbecue buffet followed by pudding and coffee and wine will be available to purchase during the evening.
If you come in your E-type, park in the orchard and bring a torch, but if you would like to make use of a local taxi company, you’ll find a list on the Club website.
Included: fizz, canapés, buffet, entertainment
Dress: casual – we can’t guarantee the temperature so bring layers!
Meet at Bromfield, just north of Ludlow from 9.30am. As the XK Club will be joining us for the Run, we will be starting cars off in batches. Your time will be confirmed to you nearer to the Weekend.
The Run will take you west towards stunning north Powys, the Dyfnant Forest and the Lakes of Vrynwy and Bala. One particular stretch of road, Bwlch y Groes, is known as Hellfire Pass and is one of the highest public road mountain passes in Wales at 1788 feet. It is not for the faint-hearted, but is super fun – the views will be great if the weather is kind to us. There will be an alternative route for those of you who wish to opt out of this stretch.
A hot buffet lunch will await you at the Lake Vrynwy Hotel. An elegant lakeside Victorian country house hotel and spa, it has been owned and run by the Bisiker family for over a quarter of a century and really is a stunning location.
Included: coffee stop, lunch and route book.
Start location: Bromfield, Ludlow, Shropshire, SY8 2JR
