May 9 – Visit to France
We had a nine car run to Ploermel, Brittany 0n 9/10 May to give the cars a little exercise after mainly being cooped up all winter. Five E-types, three XKs and a magnificent Mk V 1.5 litre drophead boarded the ferry to St Malo for a route organised by Chris and Andrea Le Boutillier in their usual impeccable manner.
Lunch was taken in the small town of Dolo before a fast sweeping section in the afternoon took us to Le Roi Arthur for the evening’s festivities. The hotel has a nine hole golf course and I couldn’t resist the temptation to work up an appetite for dinner.
Light rain did not dampen the enthusiasm on the return leg to Dinard for a brief coffee stop, followed by meandering lanes to an excellent small restaurant at Pleudihen sur Rance called La Cale de Mordreuc. Well worth a visit – we will return.
Here the Jaguars split with about half returning on Condor to Jersey in an uncomfortably strong wind, while the other half stayed on to attend a French car club meet the next day.
The attached photograph by Steve Moffatt pictures most of the field at the overnight stop.
