Northern Spain Tour Update – 1-14 June 2016
E-type & XK Club Tour
As club members surge into Portsmouth looking for the Brittany Ferries departure terminal, excitement is building for the adventure ahead.
Eighteen E Types and XKs will arrive in Bilbao on 2nd June, 2017 so for those who have been unable to make the trip, it was thought interesting for the Club to regularly post photographs and comments of the days ahead.
So watch this space in the forthcoming days to see where club members went and what they did…………………
Day One Thursday June 2nd
Sixteen E Types and XKs plus an Aston Martin and an MGB disembarked the Brittany Ferry at Bilbao just after midday.
A short drive to San Sebastian and a pintxos (local tapas) after a short walk in the old part of town.
Day Two Friday June 3rd
The first demanding road stage and a trip up a 900 metre cable car with views over the Pyrenees. The drive to Pamplona was in good weather and many tourers spent the evening in Pamplona.
Day Three Saturday June 4th
Great views from two spectacular mountain passes and some sights not imagined in Spain. Over the Larrau mountain pass and a little mist at the highest points.

Day Five Monday 6th June
After a short highway drive the cars headed through the Urbasa Mountain Pass with spectacular hairpin bends and wonderful viewing points.

Hi Louise – having a fab time in Spain – weather perfect, group has bonded very well – you should be here Frances and John.
Day 6 Tuesday June 7th
Today the temperature rose and the day ended with one car having a puncture! Very interesting monastery visit to San Millan and the Yuso monastery where the Spanish language was born, and ended the day deep in La Rioja, the wine growing area followed by dinner in Los Agustins in Haro, a converted 14th Century convent.
Day 7 Wednesday June 8th
A leisurely start to the day to a local winery in the Rioja region for a tour and wine tasting, followed by lunch in the walled city of Laguadia. Whilst there was some comment as to the amount of food eaten whilst on tour, there it was noted that every plate was clean after the lunch!
Some post tour elbow grease
Dinner at Los Agustinos, Haro
Outside Monastery San Millan
